In basic terms, CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community’s farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production.  Members or shareholders of the farm or garden pledge in advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation and farmer’s salary.  In return, they receive shares in the farm’s bounty throughout the growing season, as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land. Members also share in risks, including poor harvest due to unfavorable weather or pests.
–United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) definition

One of the main ideas behind the CSA model is to finance the farmer early in the season so that he or she can make those initial purchases. This is clearly a huge benefit to the farmer…..but what about the member? Financing the farmer early in the season will make for a less stressed out farmer and in turn he can focus maximum attention to detail so you receive the highest quality products. By joining into the CSA you will also get a closer relationship to the farm through newsletters, recipes and farm visits

As with most CSA models across the country by becoming a member you are making a commitment on many levels. You have decided that supporting small scale agriculture is important and often leads to the best quality food money can buy. You have committed to support a small farmer early in the season and have placed a large amount of trust in that farm in delivering what’s promised. And most of all you are making a commitment to better understand a food system and the enormous amount of work it takes to put food on the table. These relationship characteristics are the basic building blocks of a good CSA farm, but we have made a commitment to you to go above and beyond with OUR CSA experience.

Unlike many farms we emphasize the importance of coming out to the farm to see what’s going on. Whether it’s an on farm BBQ, you just have family in town; we highly encourage you to come out to the farm for a visit.  We have an annual customer appreciation barbeque (CSA members free!)  and also offer an opportunity for a garden plot of your own (limited availability).

Since the bedding in our hen’s nesting boxes is cleaned daily, and replaced weekly, we seldom need to “clean” our eggs, but if we do, we only use warm clean water.  We prefer not to have to clean them  so as not to remove the natural protective bloom on the eggs. We will strive to have a steady supply of fresh chicken and eggs to meet your needs. If you know you are going to need a steady weekly supply of chicken, please inform us so we can be sure to raise enough to supply your needs. If you are interested in using Duck or Turkey eggs for baking during the holiday seasons, give us a heads up so we can save them for you.  Also, if you would be interested in having a Farm Fresh Turkey for Thanksgiving notify us along with desired size as soon as you can, so we can accommodate you,

When your balance gets close to being empty, we will email you to remind you to buy another "share" if you'd like to refill your farm balance.
